October 6, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

From the event website: “This class is open to everyone who desires to see healthy church growth, both in size and in depth as a community. As a denomination committed to effectively bringing forth God’s Kingdom, we seek to provide the resources necessary to be life long learners. All who participate in this class will be given the opportunity to be further grounded in the Free Methodist DNA and values, and exposed to fruitful Kingdom discussion. Additionally, part of the beauty of being in a denomination is experiencing the support and love of others in the conference family. A natural result for those who take this class with staff members and congregants is an increase in shared understanding and a deepening of relationships that lead to a more unified and clear vision for ministry.This class provides credit for the ordination process. There will be a total of three courses offered for the ordination process before Annual Conference 2016.”

This valuable and transformative class on discipleship is being taught for members of the Free Methodist Church in Arizona.

Course Summary

This course will focus on the “being” of a disciple and it’s natural progression toward evangelization and the making of disciples. Students will be required to integrate reading, course work and class learning into various projects throughout the semester showing not just rote learning but a depth of understanding of course content.

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of this Discipleship course is to introduce the student to the basics of discipleship as impacted by a distinctly Wesleyan perspective and Anabaptist understanding. This course will address both the formational and practical. At the end of the course students will:

  1. Be able to identify implications with the Gospel message with regard to discipleship;
  2. Be able to explain the relationship between loving God, loving others, and making disciples (the relationship between discipleship and evangelism);
  3. Be able to name distinctly Wesleyan concepts within the discipleship process;
  4. Be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the experience of transformation as described and sought after in Wesleyan Theology, especially related to social action;
  5. Be acquainted with models of nurturing for spiritual formation that include lifelong, as well as life-wide, discipleship across stages of life.
